Women in Public Affairs Turns Ten
To celebrate ten years of Women in Public Affairs, throughout the year we’ll be asking ten questions to WiPA women past and present
Anna Harling
wipa Committee Member
Senior Government Relations Manager, Sainsbury’s
What's your role with WIPA and when did you get involved?
I attended one of the speed mentoring events in 2017 and loved the atmosphere in the room and all the amazing women I met so decided to put myself forward and get more involved.
What were you up to 10 years ago?
I had just graduated from the University of Bath and was interviewing for my first job in consultancy.
What’s been your career highlight from the last decade?
Getting my current job at Sainsbury’s, which is both challenging and rewarding. I have also valued working with Hestia, a charity that supports adults and children in times of crisis.
And personal highlight?
Meeting my wonderful husband in 2017. We got married this year in Thetford Forest.
And (of course) WiPA highlight?
Organising my first speed mentoring event after joining the committee. It was brilliant to facilitate lots of great conversations and new relationships.
Is there a woman in PA you think we should know about?
Katherine Morgan, Partner at DGA Interel. She is a fantastic leader, mentor, campaigner and political advisor.
What would you do if you had an extra 10 minutes in the day?
Unsubscribe from the endless junk email!
Where's your favourite place to wine and dine?
I went to Bamboo-Mat in Leyton for the first time at the weekend and I’m already planning my next trip back. It’s a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant.
What are you reading?
The book your dog wishes you would read by Louise Glazebrook. I have a very lovely Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Merlin. This book is a very helpful resource and essential reading for anyone bringing a dog into their home.
What’s your top tip for women working in public affairs?
Keep a folder of the great feedback you receive and the achievements you are proud of – provides an excellent confidence boost whenever you need one.
